Rename long filename files

Would it be possible to warn about downloading long filename (>102 characters) and allow to rename file manually or automatically ? Long file name would not be copied to DVD/CD in most popular formats. So Ideally I'd like to be able to configure re-naming rule like cut after N-th position and add ~numeric value and show both the original and new name in the log.

I am not sure how the reply is relevant to the question, but ability to rename the file is not the issue. The issue is to detect long name, warn the user and open filename dialog or automatically re-name based on pre-configured rule.

This can be done with plugin - but no such plugin still exists.
